Futsal is a fast-paced, 5-on-5 variation of soccer that is played on basketball courts. Futsal has a quick, flowing, highly-technical style with low-physicality; making it super fun to watch and play. Futsal was created in Uruguay around 1930 as a way to play soccer without the need for a full-size pitch. The first official FIFA Futsal World Cup was held in the Netherlands in 1989 and has been held every four years since 1992. Futsal is quickly growing in the area and futsal leagues are popping up all over, including Seattle Futsal, who is helping run the tournament. In 2016, the Professional Futsal League will become America’s first ever pro futsal league!
At the Northshore Futsal Cup, we anticipate highly-competitive games that maintain fun, low-physicality play that is seen in futsal matches around the globe–all while raising money to improve the lives of Haitians in need.
